Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) crews were awarded a contract to install a 770 KW roof mounted PV system on the Waltham High School, in Waltham, Massachusetts.

MEC was awarded the project on October 24, 2011 and work began November 2, 2011. The project was completed on schedule for December, 30, 2011. The scope of work included the installation of the following:

  • PV modules: 3080 each- LG250 mods
  • Inverters: 2 each- Solaron 333kW
  • Hb Solar Mounting System (100% ballasted) including ballast
  • SolarBOS fused Combiner Boxes
  • Data Acquisition System (DAS)
  • (8) 200A rated Fusible DC Disconnect

This is the third project in which MEC has worked with Ameresco. The system was built for, and is owned by the City of Waltham, Massachusetts, to provide power for the Waltham High School.

MEC crews on this project faced the challenges of installing the Solar PV system on the roof of the school, which included material placement on the roof, along with harsh weather conditions. The project involved safety hazards and taking precautions to prevent falls.
