st. joseph's abbey 20.3mw solar project

 NRG’s third community solar farm began operating in November 2016. The 20.3MW solar farm is built into the sloping terrain across ten areas all located on 200 acres of the historic St. Joseph’s Abbey. The Abbey is home to a group of Cistercian Trappist Monks, who will benefit from the additional revenue stream the leasing of their land will bring in.

One of the largest ground mounted solar systems in the state of Massachusetts, it has a 14.7 MWac capacity. MEC crews from IBEW Local 96 installed: 

• 61,870, 325W and 330W panels from Hyundai Heavy Industries 
• Power Electronics/Freesun inverters 
• A TF2 fixed-tilt ground mounted racking system from TerraSmart 
• 8,516 ground screws 
• 21MW DC system size 

At the time of project start-up, it was NRG’s largest community solar project in the United States
