Palmer 1.2MW Solar Project - Palmer, Mass.

Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) electrical crews from IBEW Locals 7 & 103 completed the installation of a 1.2MW ground mounted solar photovoltaic system in Palmer, Mass.

Working as a subcontractor to Gehrlicher Solar America Corp., MEC crews installed the following:

  • 4,048 solar modules
  • 16 combiner boxes
  • 3 – 500KW AE inverters

The site is located on what was formerly a hay field. The terrain was a new challenge for MEC, because it was more uneven and hilly than other locations they had worked at to date. The crews needed to pay extra attention to squaring and torqueing the racking system to ensure that the modules were mounted evenly at a 25 degree angle.

Another key challenge was the training of a new work force; who caught on quickly to the processes and procedures MEC had established from building other solar projects around the state. The project was completed on schedule on July 12, 2013, without any safety incidents. MEC worked for a repeat client, who recognizes us for our quality work and safety achievement.
