Intercounty Connector Contract B

Montgomery County, Md.

Construction on the eighteen miles of the six-lane, multimodal Intercounty Connector (ICC) variable toll highway began in 2007 and was fully completed in 2014. With the successful completion of similar highway and ITS projects in Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts, MEC was selected to complete the ICC Contract B (ICCB) segment of the five-phase ICC design-build project.

As the signature of Boston’s Big Dig project, the Leonard P. Zakim/Bunker Hill Bridge (Zakim Bridge), completed in 2002 and fully opened in 2004 is not only the world’s widest asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, but it is also the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in the nation. The bridge, which spans from Boston’s North End to Charlestown, MA, consists of ten lanes, and merges I-93 and U.S. Route 1 traffic across the Charles River, into and out of the Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. Tunnel.

Metrolink Positive Train Control

Los Angeles, Calif. & Culver City, Calif.

This project is the first of its kind to be awarded in the U.S. Rail Industry. It is the first Positive Train Control (PTC) system that complies with the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008. The Rail Safety Improvement Act requires all passenger and freight railroads to install PTC by 2015. The overall project scope includes design, installation, documentation, testing, integration, and commissioning of PTC technology on the 512-miles of the Metrolink commuter rail system.

Midtown Tunnel Project

The Elizabeth River Tunnels Public-Private Partnership (P3) project is underway in the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. MEC’s work includes construction and pre-construction services for electrical systems for the new Midtown Tunnel and Martin Luther King Expressway, and rehabilitation of the existing Downtown and Midtown Tunnels. Through 2018, MEC will be working with SKW Constructors, a Skanska, Kiewit, Weeks Marine Joint Venture.

Milton Academy 192.27 kWP Roof-Mounted Solar Array

Norfolk, Mass.

In April 2012 Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) began installation of a roof-mounted solar system on the Milton Academy ACC Building. The project consists of the design and installation of a 192.27 kWp solar power system. The system will operate parallel to the utility supply, and will offset the amount of daily power sourced by the facility.
