Groveland 3.6MW Solar Farm

Groveland, Mass.

Groveland Solar Project is a 3.6 MW solar farm on approximately 25 acres of land located in Groveland, Massachusetts. Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) self-performed all the duct work, cable pulling, building racking systems, terminating cable wires including six inverters and the 15 kV power, and installed 12,672 solar modules.

Harry Tracy WTP Long-Term Improvements Project

Located in San Bruno, California, the Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant (HTWTP) Long-term Improvements Project was completed for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). The HTWTP treats and delivers water stored in the Crystal Springs and San Andreas reservoirs to residents and businesses in North County, and is the San Francisco Peninsula’s sole source of emergency water.

This project entailed rehabilitation of eight segments of catenary lines from New Rochelle to Sunnyside Yard. The existing systems, which were installed in the 1920s and 1930s, were due for rehabilitation because of age and as a preventative measure to help ensure that the catenary lines would hold in extreme weather events, such as a windstorm.

Homer City Units 1 & 2 AQCS Project

Homer City, Pa.

Work is underway in the upgrade the Homer City Power Plant in Homer City, Pennsylvania. The plant has stood above the city for over 43 years, and the 1,884-megawatt plant generates enough power for 2 million homes. In order to meet new federal clean air standards set for 2014, new scrubbers are being added to the chimneys to cut down on air pollution. Currently, Homer City Power Plant is labeled as one of the dirtiest power plants in the country; it will be one of the cleanest after the upgrades.

Iatan Coal-Fired Power Plant

Weston, Mo.

MEC managed crews on electrical installations at the Iatan Coal-Fired Power Plant. Crews constructed and installed the Air Quality Control System (back-end or AQCS) for the existing 651 MW Unit I plant, and worked on the construction of major components for a new, 850 MW Unit II, including the Steam Turbine, Boiler, AQCS, and balance of plant (BOP) electrical work.
